Stinker’s Fishin’: Beach Bream

THIS Christmas give rock fishing a miss and concentrate your efforts on the beach.

Family-friendly, the local beaches have loaded up with cracker whiting and thumping big snowy white bream.

Unlike their cousins that live in the estuary, beach bream are broad shouldered and pearly white.

In the kitchen the beach bream can be filleted or cooked whole.

Throughout December until the end of summer bream, whiting, salmon, flathead and mulloway will be patrolling all the beaches from Stockton to Fingal.

Set up on a rising tide and toss your baits of worm, pipi or a strip of fresh mullet just behind the shore break.

Get ready because it won’t be long before something takes an interest.

If you intend to target Stockton Beach, you will require a Beach Permit which is available from service stations in Anna Bay or can be accessed online.

Other beaches do not permit vehicles and the Fingal Beach boatramp closes over the Christmas break.
