LIONS Club of Raymond Terrace recently hosted yet another successful High Tea in aid of the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.
For the fifth year, the club has worked to promote the worthy cause – raising $10,000 to support groundbreaking research into childhood cancer.
“Things got a bit out of hand with our white rabbit and his teapots, but the outcome was still very rewarding,” Membership Chair Annette Clark told News Of The Area.
The Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCRF) was officially established in 2009 with the aim of increasing survival rates in childhood cancer by supporting cancer research efforts in Australia and around the world.
Since 1996, Lions Australia have shown outstanding commitment, contributing more than $14m to research.
This effort has resulted in safer and more effective blood stem cell transportation for leukaemia patients following chemotherapy, which can lead to shorter hospitalisation and more rapid recovery.
Groundbreaking research is being carried out in the identification of genomic factors controlling therapy outcomes and survivorship in paediatric brain cancer patients at the University of Adelaide.
“Lions have done a lot, but the job is not over,” Clark said.
“We believe every child has the right to a healthy life.
“While we’re proud of the fifth high tea, successful results are only possible with the support of our sponsors, supporters, and club members.
“This year, we needed a reserve list of only two weeks after opening the books, a testament to the community’s ongoing commitment and support.
“It was a fun day. Enjoyable company, good home-baked food, great raffle prizes and plenty of items to bid on all contributed to its success.”
