RAYMOND Terrace soccer prodigy Kyle Blackie has achieved success in the green and gold.
The talented Hunter River High School student was a member of the Australian Under 14yrs Boys Futsal team that stood tall during a recent three week sojourn to the United Kingdom.
Kyle, a promising goalkeeper, helped Australia bring home the Roy Miller Cup championship trophy – conceding only one goal for the entire tournament.
It was an incredible feat by the young Aussies who recorded six victories and two draws across eight matches.
For goal stopper Blackie it was a first overseas trip to remember.
He proudly donned the Australian jumper on European soil and left his mark in the official FIFA-recognised, five-a-side version of soccer.
Kyle’s journey began in Scotland at the prestigious Scossie Cup, where the young Aussies fought hard to finish second overall.
The streak continued in Wales where the team dominated at the Roy Miller Cup tournament with Kyle the standout in defence.
An elated Blackie told News Of The Area that he was “excited” to represent Australia on his first overseas venture.
“We played matches in Scotland and Wales and visited London, where I saw Big Ben,” he said.
“My highlights of the trip were watching Aston Villa play in the England Premier League in Birmingham and returning home as Aussie champions.”
Kyle’s soccer endeavours have proved an inspiration to his Hunter River High School colleagues and the Port Stephens sporting community.
A rising centre back with Wallsend FC in the Northern NSW Premier Youth League competition, he is a relative newcomer to the five-a-side game.
He was encouraged by Hunter River High teacher Scott Pettit to try his hand at Futsal and tasted instant success.
The rookie represented Northern NSW at the 2025 National Schools Futsal Championships in Brisbane and turned in top performances to gain selection in the touring Australian Under 14s team.
