New homes, shops and services being unlocked for Medowie

MEDOWIE is a wonderful place to call home, and it’s no surprise that it’s our fastest-growing suburb.

It’s the perfect place for young families to buy their first house and home to long-term residents who have helped build this community. Through community workshops for the Medowie Place Plan, we heard from locals that they also wanted practical options to downsize without leaving the area they love.

To deliver on both of these local needs, Council has approved the rezoning of land at the corner of Ferodale and Medowie Roads.

This decision will unlock development opportunities for close to 200 new homes, along with handy local shops and services.

The rezoning establishes new land-use zones, lot sizes, and building heights for the site but does not approve specific developments.

Importantly, it gives both our young families and those looking to downsize an opportunity to secure their future in Medowie.

But unlocking new development opportunities for homes, shops and services is only half the job. We also need to ensure the surrounding neighbourhood grows with them and has the right infrastructure to support the growth.

Thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s Faster Assessments Incentive Program combined with Council contributions, we will be investing $1.59 million to upgrade the nearby Ferodale and Peppertree Road intersection, improving traffic flow and movement in the area and creating a safer pedestrian and cycling environment.

We’re working to ensure our town services and facilities are keeping pace with growth.

And we’ll continue to protect the local environment and unique local town character that defines Medowie.

It will boost our local economy through new jobs and business opportunities while crucially protecting the environment by permanently preserving natural green corridors and waterways.

Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance to support local families and make it easier for people to stay in the area they love, while protecting the beautiful natural lifestyle and great community spirit that makes Medowie so special.
