The Tomaree Peninsula Photography Club is about to return with its annual free exhibition, titled ‘Through our Lens’.
Locals are encouraged to come along to celebrate the creativity of the talented artists, and perhaps even learn something new.
The opening night will be held from 6.30pm to 9pm on Friday 23 October in the Seascape Room at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club, and will also be open on Saturday 24 October and Sunday 25 October from 10am to 4pm.
The purpose of the exhibition is simple: explore the individuality and unique creativity of local photographers, showcasing their different styles, subjects and perspective.
“We have an amazing array of talented photographers in the bay, and this exhibition will give people the opportunity to see some of their best works,” said Tomaree Peninsular Photography Club president Lianne Manley.
“Photography has a wonderful way of making us slow down and notice the details we might otherwise miss – whether it be the delicate curve of a petal, the texture of a feather, or the patterns in nature.
“This exhibition celebrates that ability to look closer and see differently. It also offers an opportunity to spark conversations and encourage others in the Bay to learn more about photography and explore their own talents.”
Visitors will be able to see a wide range of photographs across different genres: colour, monochrome, macro, and creative/altered reality, both digitally and in print.
They will also be able to vote for their favourite, purchase prints and, most importantly, engage with the photographers to learn more about their process, and maybe even pick up a new hobby.
Tomaree Peninsula Photography Club member Glynis Quinlan said that the club, which originally came to life in 2008 over a cup of coffee, has now flourished into a community of photography enthusiasts of all levels.
Ms Quinlan said that the Port Stephens art community as a whole was thriving and expanding in size, particularly this year.
The Tomaree Peninsula Photography Club encourages visitors (even if inexperienced) to join them for their meetings, held at 7pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Soldiers Point Bowling Club. The club frequently features guest speakers, workshops and outings to help participants improve their photographic skills.
