MEMBERS of the Probus Club of Port Stephens have ushered in a new chapter, celebrating their Annual General Meeting with a Changeover Lunch at Nelson Bay Golf Club on Thursday 12 March.
The event marked a transition in leadership, and also the close of what has been described as a highly successful year for the club, driven by dedicated office bearers, committee members and Mutual Interest Group (MIG) leaders.
As the new committee steps in, the focus remains clear: continue building a vibrant, connected and active community for local retirees.
“Our goals are to continue to provide varied and interesting activities and build on the successful year just past,” said member Lesley Palagy.
The Probus Club offers a wide range of regular and social activities, including walking groups, social bowls, snooker, dining outings and special interest gatherings.
Monthly meetings also feature guest speakers, often providing both entertainment and valuable information on local services.
Attracting new members remains a key priority, particularly as Port Stephens continues to welcome retirees to the region.
“We have an excellent website which showcases upcoming activities and recent events, giving prospective members a strong sense of what we offer,” said President Robert Buchanan.
“Word of mouth is also very important, with current members often inviting friends along to meetings and social events.”
Looking ahead, members can anticipate a calendar filled with opportunities, including a planned trip to Mudgee in October organised by the club’s “Cara Campers” group.
The trip will include visits to vineyards, dining experiences and local attractions, catering for both caravan travellers and those preferring cabin accommodation.
With new ideas encouraged and member-led initiatives welcomed, the Probus Club continues to evolve – ensuring another engaging year lies ahead for its members.
