CHARITY FEATURE: Port Stephens Westpac Helicopter Support Group

THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a community-owned and operated aeromedical, search and rescue service operating across the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, New England and North West regions of NSW.

Since 1975, thanks to the generosity and support from people right across Northern NSW, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter has grown to become a vital 24-7 operation.

The service flies four AW139 Westpac Rescue Helicopters from three bases at Belmont, Tamworth and Lismore, providing emergency aeromedical services to 1.5 million people across Northern NSW.

Tasked by NSW Ambulance from Triple Zero (000) calls, crews draw upon extensive experience and training to respond to missions for those who are injured or requiring urgent specialist care.

Every life the service saves, and every person they assist, provides a reminder of the critical role the helicopters and those operating them play in our region.

Community fundraising and strong partnerships have always been integral to ensuring the quality, reliability and sustainability of its operations continue.

Locally, the Port Stephens Westpac Helicopter Support Group works tirelessly to raise funds to ensure that the service stays in the air.
