LONG-serving Tilligerry Peninsula volunteer Sue Hamilton has officially received a King’s Birthday Honours medal for her services to the community.
The award recognises decades of involvement as a volunteer in a wide range of organisations, educational groups, and community initiatives on the Tilligerry Peninsula.
Hamilton began volunteering with Tilligerry Adult and Community Education in 1999 and continues to support residents at Lemon Tree Passage Library, helping people with computer and technology issues.
Over the years she has served as treasurer of Tilligerry Scouts and worked with the Tilligerry Community Association to establish the Homework Hub and Tilligerry’s newsletter.
Hamilton also coordinated community group showcases at local festivals, and spent seven years supporting Tanilba Bay Public School through its P&C, in the canteen, and its classroom reading programs, as well as establishing the school’s uniform shop.
Asked what inspired her, Hamilton said: “I sort of fell into a lot of things. My son was involved in Scouts and when they needed some support I said, ‘Yeah, I can help’.”
In addition to her volunteer work, Hamilton works as an Administrative Assistant at KU Peninsula Preschool and is a Training Coordinator at Atwea College.
