Medowie Lions Art and Craft Fair showcases local talent of all ages

ARTWORK from Medowie’s youngest artists joined the work of local artists and craftspeople at the Medowie Lions’ Art and Craft Fair.

Medowie Community Preschool took part for the first time, with artwork from every child on display.

For the children, part of the excitement was finding their own work among the pieces on show.

“The kids do art class each week, so we thought we’d show the work they’ve been doing,” said preschool spokesperson Tracy.

“They’ve all been coming in and finding their own work.”

The display gave families and relatives the chance to see what the children had been creating during their weekly art classes.

Visitors also had their say in the People’s Choice Awards, with Linda Carmac winning the art category and Hannah Whitney the craft category. Each category carried a $250 prize.

Alongside the opportunity to show their work, exhibitors helped Medowie Lions raise money to support the community. The club collects a hanging fee and a small commission on sales.

Last year’s art and craft show raised $4000.

Since the start of the new financial year, Medowie Lions has already raised $10,000 through its fundraising activities.

Club president John Tunbridge said community support made a difference to what the club’s volunteers could give back.

“The more we get, the better,” Mr Tunbridge said.

“One hundred per cent of what we raise goes back out into the community.”

Eight Lions Club volunteers put the fair together, making space for both experienced exhibitors and the preschoolers.

For the children, the fair meant the excitement of seeing their work on display at a community event. For their families, it was a chance to admire their budding artists’ contributions.
