DEAR News Of The Area,
I WOULD like to congratulate the Mambo Wetlands community group on the two public forums held recently.
I was impressed by the in-depth knowledge of the speakers and how they managed to explain the issues to the attendees in a simplified understanding way. The speakers were as passionate as the community attendees about saving Mambo.
It is disappointing that community groups everywhere have to keep fighting to retain the environment and I always applaud their passion and tenacity. I believe the last campaign to stop a developer from building on land owned on the high ground of Mambo at Port Stephens Drive took more than five years, with the community staying passionate and focussed, resulting in a victory.
In this latter campaign Port Stephens Council was supportive of the community’s desire not to build on Mambo.
Should this current Mambo campaign take as long as the former one, there will be council and State elections during that timeframe. This is something that those seeking or remaining in a political career need to take onboard, should they remain focussed with building on Mambo and going against the community, who are passionate to protect the environment.
Regards,
Douglas Curtis,
Salamander Bay.
