I WANTED to take a moment to reflect on the importance of genuine and ongoing engagement with our community.
As Mayor and as your elected Councillors, we represent you and your needs.
We hold the responsibility to deliver sustainable improvements and strategic developments that directly support the lifestyle we value here in Port Stephens.
It is always a fine balance, but our decision-making is anchored in the strategies shaped by your input.
Lately, we have seen fantastic community participation.
This was recently highlighted by the response to the development of a new Aquatics Infrastructure Plan, where over 500 residents told us what they want for the future of our pools.
We have also heard from you on the Raymond Terrace Place Plan, the Anna Bay and Tilligerry Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study, and playground replacements at Anseline Park and Boat Harbour.
Your valuable feedback has informed two key master plans recently endorsed by Council.
For the Tomaree Sports Complex Master Plan, you told us that you wanted an indoor sports facility, and this is now included in the revision, enabling us to seek funding to help deliver on the master plan for our community.
Likewise, for the Medowie Town Centre Master Plan your feedback helped change the location of different spaces, including the recreation areas and the inclusion of a library facility.
Now, we need your help to plan our outdoor spaces for our four-legged friends. We have opened community feedback for our Dogs in Public Places Plan.
Your feedback will help us to identify the best use of local public spaces.
It will set out where dogs can run off leash, where they must be kept safely on a leash, and where restrictions are required to accommodate the needs of the wider community and environment.
Your ongoing feedback is essential as we work together to deliver for Port Stephens. Make sure you visit the Have Your Say website.
