LIFE is fascinating on the sporting front for Nelson Bay Rugby Club’s speed machine Jake Langsford.
As the Gropers mount a serious challenge for this year’s Hunter Suburban Rugby Presidents Cup A Grade trophy, all eyes will be on the flying winger who has found a purple patch of form.
The elusive Langsford has produced a string of best-on-ground displays during Nelson Bay’s grand final charge with his fleet footwork, swerve and turn-of-pace a feature.
His ability to also play in the half back position and spark the attack is a huge plus for Michael Squires’ rampant Gropers at the business end of the season.
Jake’s scintillating form can be traced back to his touch football deeds earlier this year at the Asia Pacific International Opens Touch Championships at Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex in Mudgee where the 20-year-old try-scoring phenomenon shone on the international stage.
Representing the Philippines with his Nelson Bay Neptunes mate Verdelh Antonio, the pair turned on the style to help secure a deserved bronze medal in the Mixed Division category.
It was a magic moment and huge honour for the dynamic duo, who are gifted all-round athletes in their own right.
Revelling in his role as a middle, the livewire Langsford helped the Philippines create history by securing their first-ever medal in the Mixed category.
Jake was one of the best on ground when the spirited Philippines outfit produced a composed and disciplined display to defeat Samoa 12-7 in the bronze medal match.
With seven tries in seven appearances, he capped a superb tournament while proudly representing both his heritage and the local sporting community.
“To win a medal and be part of a history-making Philippines sporting team was a top achievement and now I have a chance to win a rugby premiership with the Nelson Bay club,” an excited Langsford told News Of The Area.
‘It would cap a memorable year by tasting success in the two sports that I enjoy playing,” he said.
A skilful commodity, Jake continues to stamp his mark across two football codes.
