MEDOWIE Netball Club sensation Mackenzie Bohan has been recognised as a Hunter Netball Rising Star.

The boom 16-year-old goal defender continues to impress keen judges with dynamic performances on the netball court.

After consistent displays at club and representative level, young gun Mackenzie has earned herself a position in the Hunter Central Coast Heart Talented Athlete Immersion Program (TAiP), which is a pathway to Premier League.

This Elite Netball program is designed to develop emerging elite athletes in a local high performance environment where she’ll train alongside Heart’s Premier League athletes and receive specialist coaching.

Her busy schedule also included classy performances at the recent Hunter Academy Games Challenge alongside two other Port Stephens products in Bowey Manning and Ciara Cullen.

Despite her tender years, Mackenzie notched up an impressive milestone this season – chalking up 10 years’ service with Medowie Netball Club.

She celebrated the achievement by helping her Medowie Kaos team capture the Maitland District Netball Association A2 premiership with a thrilling 34-32 Grand Final victory over rivals Maitland Rugby Blacks.

Under the expert guidance of State Junior championship-winning coach Taylah Whitty, the Kaos prevailed in the hot conditions in a game of fluctuating fortunes.

Whitty told News Of The Area that using rolling subs and talent depth across all positions worked wonders.

“We have always had tough battles with the Blacks and this year’s Grand Final was no different,” she said.

“The girls really stepped up under pressure.”

It proved a Bohan family affair, with Mackenzie sharing the title triumph with talented sisters Shannon at centre and goal shooter Bronte.

A genuine trump card, Mackenzie formed a lethal combination with ace goal defence Zoe Armstrong, who was judged Player of the Grand Final after a powerhouse display.

Other Kaos team members included centre Holly Smith, wing attack Claudia Feenan, goal attack Kira Vandermast, goal shooter Alyssa Schein, wing defence Finlay Higgins and goal keeper Katie Brazier.

The Medowie side won 12 of their 14 fixtures during the regular season before sinking the Blacks 23-16 in a hard-fought qualifying final.

When it mattered most, the Kaos lineup rose to the challenge and brought home the trophy with another stout-hearted performance at the top level.
