Nelson Bay Marlins men outclass Maitland Saints in AFL action

NELSON Bay Marlins first grade AFL mens team have continued their charge towards the Hunter Central Coast Black Diamond Senior Mens Cup finals series.

The competitive Marlins consolidated fourth spot when they trounced Maitland Saints 127-31 at Dick Burwell Oval to register their fourth win of the season.

Led by super boot forward Billy Barton – who kicked an impressive eight goals in Nelson Bay’s rollicking 96 point triumph – the Marlins demonstrated their attacking skills from the outset.

Nelson Bay booted five goals and three behinds to lead 33-10 at the end of the first quarter and another three in the second term to establish a 56-25 advantage at the half time interval.

The Marlins added 45 unanswered points in the third quarter before  finishing strongly with another goal spree.

Experienced campaigner Wayd Blackburne and Mitchell Hall bagged goal doubles for Nelson Bay with Harry Gordon, Alec Clark, Mackenzie Nelson, Tom Warren, Adam Blyth, Seth Morrissey and Hudson Roche posting six pointers in a 19-goal rout.

Nelson Bay are entrenched in fourth spot on 16 points behind undefeated competition leaders Newcastle City (28 points), Terrigal-Avoca Panthers (28) and third placed Killarney Vale Bombers (20).

Rising star Olivia Feldman celebrated her 100 games milestone last Saturday with the Marlins womens AFL team.

The inspirational skipper turned in a strong performance as Nelson Bay hammered Maitland Saints 99-21 in Senior Womens Cup action at Dick Burwell Oval.

Best on ground for Nelson Bay were the crafty Feldman, Annalise Norton, Charlotte Connick, Jazlyn Stevens, Cameron Moncrieff, Ella Toscano and Isabella Hol.
