Port Stephens Athletics Club holds fundraiser to support young athlete Pippi Cullimore

THE Port Stephens community has banded together to support young athlete Pippi Cullimore.

Pippi, who was nominated for the 2025 Port Stephens Young Person of the Year award, has been fighting a rare form of cancer since last December, facing ongoing chemotherapy treatment.

She is a much-loved member of the local sporting scene, including as a member of the Port Stephens Athletics Club and Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Union.

Last week’s Joker Poker raffle at the Cheeky Dog pub in Soldiers Point, sponsored by the Port Stephens Athletics Club, was entirely dedicated to 14-year-old Pippi and her family.

All funds raised during the event were fully donated to the Cullimore family to support Pippi’s ongoing medical bills.

“We joke around a lot that it’s gambling, but obviously it’s all about connecting together for a good cause,” said Port Stephens Athletics Club president Michelle Chan.

A separate GoFundMe campaign – initiated by the rugby club – attracted more than 300 donations for the family in recent weeks, totalling more than $45,000 towards Pippi’s treatment costs.

Fundraiser organiser Matthew Findlay described Pippi as a “highly valued member” of the rugby club and a dedicated young athlete.

“The journey has been incredibly difficult not only for Pip but also for her family as they navigate the demands of supporting her physical and mental wellbeing during this time,” he said.
