Port Stephens Legacy recognises strong community support

PORT Stephens Legacy has recognised the valuable support of local businesses and individuals at an Appreciation Luncheon held at Nelson Bay Bowling Club.

Doug Jacka, Chair of Port Stephens Legacy, praised the tremendous support of the local community.

“This support has helped our Division continue to look after over 174 widows and 19 children in the best way we can,” he told News Of The Area.

“While a number of our ladies are in retirement care, many live independently and need support from time to time.”

The luncheon was organised by Port Stephens Legacy Division secretary and social co-ordinator Wendy Barwick.

Represented were Nelson Bay Bowling Club, Port Stephens Veterans and Citizens Aged Care (Harbourside), Nelson Bay RSL, Regis Port Stephens, Uniting Care, Tanilba Shores Retirement Village, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, students from Tomaree High School, and the sponsors from the Port Stephens Legacy Golf Day – Driving Miss Daisy, Bunnings and Blooms the Chemist.

They joined with Torchbearers from Nelson Bay and Lemon Tree Passage, and Legatees and their partners.

Legacy events commemorate the sacrifices of servicemen and women and reaffirm the shared commitment to caring for the loved ones left behind.

Mr Jacka said that Port Stephens Legacy doesn’t receive Government support and therefore all the help they get is vital.

“We are also on the lookout for new Legatees to join our division” he added.
