PORT Stephens Netball Association’s first ever all-male representative team will compete at this year’s Netball NSW Senior State Titles.
The Under 17 rookies will compete in the six team Male State Challenge on Monday, 8 June at Penrith.
The history-making Port Stephens boys team comprises students from Irrawang High School, Hunter River High School and other schools in the region, coming from basketball, rugby league and soccer backgrounds.
Port Stephens Netball representative Convenor Nadina Marsh told News Of The Area the Association was “proud to launch its very first all-boys team”.
“The squad was assembled only days before the recent Newcastle representative carnival where the boys represented the association with distinction,” said Nadina.
“It was an exciting moment for our association with the team posting a win and a draw at their very first tournament together.”
Under the guidance of experienced co-coaches Felicity Pacevski and Ashley Caldwell, the boys have risen to the challenge.
The squad continue to improve with each outing as they brush up on the finer points of netball and their individual skills in preparation for the State championships.
“It is an incredible achievement and opportunity for these young athletes as they continue to break new ground for boys netball in our region,” Nadina added.
Port Stephens’ history-making Boys team features talented midcourters Talon McLennan, Baylee Jenkins and Adie Marou, shooter Phoenix Stone-Krznaric, shooter/defence Liam Knight, shooter/midcourt Caleb Pacevski, defenders Broc Agnew and Xavier Charlie and defence/midcourt Darryn Vaggs.
