SOUTHS Newcastle Netball Club proved a force at the annual Nelson Bay Netball Association Carnival at Tomaree Sports Complex courts.

The club celebrated double success by winning the under-12 Juniors and under-14 Intermediate divisions with skilful performances throughout the day.

Both teams capped a memorable carnival by finishing undefeated in their respective age categories.

Souths Chestnut were triumphant in the Juniors while the under-14 Souths Chrome side demonstrated its dominance in the Intermediate competition.

In the Net Set Go division for 9- to 10-year-olds, Stockton Swell took out the honours.

Medowie Netball Club showed its depth of talent by finishing runners up in all three categories – a magnificent achievement by the progressive organisation.

The Medowie Halos earned silver medals in the Net Set Go; the Medowie Matildas (Juniors) while the 12-year-old Medowie Clovers produced outstanding performances to finish runners-up in the strong Intermediate section.

Competing against 13- and 14-year olds, the Clovers lost only one match all day – a 23-8 defeat against eventual winners Souths Chrome in their final fixture.

Taylah Whitty’s whiz kids relished the opportunity to test their skills against players two years their senior and chalked up six victories from their seven fixtures.

Boasting six Nelson Bay and three Dungog representative players that finished runners up in the 12 years Division Three and Four categories at this year’s State Junior Netball titles, the Clovers showed their class by winning the recent Port Stephens Carnival at Raymond Terrace.

They are also in title contention in the Maitland Netball under-12s Division One series which speaks volumes for the team’s natural ability and court craft.
