Salamander Bay needs a concept plan

Salamander Bay needs a concept plan

Dear News Of The Area,

The now-released Medowie Place Plan looks very impressive. There are recreation areas for young and old. Connectivity between housing, commercial and recreation spaces. Green areas are preserved for conservation, acknowledging that respondents to the Plan said that the environment was their number one priority. All this while working with the existing infrastructure to enhance and include community needs.

Contrast this with the Salamander Bay Town Centre Place Plan. I believe that calling it a Plan is a misnomer. There is no plan. No connectivity with existing infrastructure – the Tomaree Library or shopping centre. No regard for the damage and disconnection with the existing wetland, one of Port Stephens’ greatest environmental assets.

Residents deserve at least a Concept Plan to be reassured that Port Stephens Council has a vision for what the Town Centre should look like.

At present I believe it looks like a fire sale of community-owned assets that quickly offloads the responsibility for a “vision” to any developers who build around the current shopping centre.

The community of Salamander Bay deserves better.

Regards,

Kathy Brown, Secretary,

Mambo Wanda Wetlands Conservation Group.
