WARATAH-Mayfield have claimed bragging rights in the 2025 Newcastle Hunter Rugby League Men’s A Grade competition.
The Cheetahs downed arch rivals Raymond Terrace Magpies 12-6 in the final preliminary round at Lakeside Sporting Complex last weekend to wrap up the minor premiership title.
In doing so they spoiled the Magpies’ Old Boys Day party celebrations with Raymond Terrace slipping to third after the Dudley Magpies edged out Cardiff Cobras 18-16 at John Balcomb Oval to snatch second spot on the A Grade competition table.
Sharp running winger Daniel Ellis and five-eighth Jacob Payne scored tries for the table-topping Cheetahs with halfback Travis Lowe booting two goals.
Winger Liam Conlon posted the Magpies only try, which was converted by five-eighth Kyle Handford in a thrilling tussle.
Raymond Terrace are the only club to defeat Waratah-Mayfield this season.
The Old Boys Day was in honour of Magpies forward legend Darren ‘Edo’ Edmonds, who is battling cancer, with the club conducting a fundraising drive to help with his ongoing treatment.
