Whiz kid Winter snares high jump gold and long jump silver at NSW Little Athletics championships

Raymond Terrace athlete Winter Robson, 10, claimed back to back State titles after winning gold in the Girls 10yrs high jump at the recent NSW Little Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Winter also grabbed silver in the long jump final.

RAYMOND Terrace Athletics Centre has unearthed a new golden girl in high jump sensation Winter Robson.

The promising ten-year-old brought home gold and silver medals at the recent NSW Open and Little Athletics State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

Whiz kid Winter achieved a rare feat by winning gold in the Girls 10yrs high jump with a leap of 1.26m – edging out Ryde Athletics Centre’s Paige Liu for the top gong in a standout performance.

In an impressive all round display, she backed it up by claiming a silver medal in the 10yrs long jump the following day with a jump of 3.89m.

Wollongong City’s Ella Walker won the event with a score of 3.96m in a crackerjack contest.

In only her third season of track and field, gifted Winter now has two State high jump titles under her belt.

She won her first in her debut season as high jumper in 2025 in record-breaking style, setting a new State record jump of 1.20m to blow away her opposition.

Coached by her father Clint Robson, young Winter has enjoyed a meteoric rise on the athletics field since joining the club as a fresh-faced eight-year-old.

She was one of six Raymond Terrace club athletes that took on their biggest challenge to date against the best competitors across NSW in the 9yrs to 12yrs and Open age groups.

Among the youngest entrants, nine-year-old Scarlet Lodge showed fierce determination across three events –  finishing sixth strongly in the 100m sprint, 16th in the 70m and 21st in the 200m.

In the 11yrs Boys division, Jack Peach gave it his best in the High Jump to place 21st against a tough field.

In the Open ranks, 19-year-old Sienna Newton achieved a commendable fifth place in the Para Ambulant Long Jump, while talented Dixie Conlon,18, and Ebony Newton ,21, were tested in the highly competitive Open 100m hurdles – finishing 16th and 10th respectively.

These performances, combined with the club’s recent success at the Little Athletics NSW Junior Championships, mark the close of a rewarding and competitive season for the Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre.

The season will be celebrated at the Centre’s annual presentation on Sunday April 26 at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club from 4pm to 6pm.

Looking ahead, planning is already underway for a very special milestone – the Centre’s 50th anniversary celebrations during the 2026-27 season.
