Nelson Bay community craft afternoon brings parents and children together for Easter

A FREE community craft session helped get local families firmly into the Easter spirit.

Ahead of the long weekend, the Wood Oven in Nelson Bay’s d’Albora Marina dedicated their free monthly Community Craft Afternoon to the task of creating Easter-themed crafts.

“Each time we have a different theme,” stated organiser Jema Moore.
“We did Lino printing for the last one, and next time it will be something different.”

There was a large array of materials to make creations with: eggs to paint, bunny ears to assemble, and baskets to decorate with accessories.

No Easter event would be complete without an assortment of chocolate eggs for kids to take and (hopefully) share with friends and neighbours.

Humans weren’t the only ones welcome to join in on the sharing; little pots of pet grass were available to decorate and take home for “real” Easter bunnies.

The monthly Community Craft Afternoon has become popular with children and older people alike, both as an opportunity to channel creativity and engage with like-minded people.

Going forward, Jema is planning to get even more people involved, with a special focus on families.

The workshop is generally held every last Saturday of the month although, due to popular demand, there are discussions for it to be moved to Sunday to let as many people as possible join in on the fun.
