MEDOWIE Football Club has had phenomenal success in the 2026 Newcastle Football Community interdistrict junior and senior competitions.
In one of their finest seasons on record, the Bumblebees have annexed six championship titles – a magnificent accomplishment for the Port Stephens-based club.
Three Medowie FC teams – the Boys under-12/1, Girls under-13/1 and the Mens over-35/1 outfits – captured minor premiership and major championship doubles to cap memorable campaigns.
Club official Alice Lavender told News Of The Area that the Bumblebees had 10 teams qualify for this year’s Newcastle Community inter-district finals series.
“Six of those sides advanced to the grand final, and all won major premierships – a tremendous feat,” she said.
The other Medowie teams to win major premierships were the Boys under-15/1, Boys under-17/1 and All Age Men combinations.
After clinching the minor title, Medowie under-12/1 lineup suffered a surprise semi-final loss before rallying to sink South Wallsend 2-1 in the grand final and secure the ‘double.’
Medowie under-13/1 girls were crowned minor and major premiers after toppling rivals Maryland Fletcher 3-1 in the grand final for the second time in the finals series.
One of the success stories for the Bumblebees this season was the spirited efforts of the Boys under-15/1 squad.
They had a challenging path to the grand final – losing their major semi-final clash against Nelson Bay FC before downing Kotara South in the preliminary final to advance to the trophy decider.
The young Bumblebees saved their best until last – posting their first win over Nelson Bay all season 1-0 to bring home the major premiership.
Medowie under-17/1 team registered two victories over rivals Cooks Hill in the finals to secure the major title.
They gained a 1-0 lead in the grand final and produced a super defensive display to keep the Cookers at bay and secure the silverware.
Medowie All Age Men finished third on the ladder, but that didn’t stop them from bringing their best form to the senior finals series.
The Bumblebees eliminated Kotara South in a semi-final, Maryland Fletcher All Age/3 in the preliminary final, before scoring the only goal in the second half to beat Maryland Fletcher All Age/4 in the grand final.
Medowie over-35/1 team celebrated a minor and major premiership double with a 1-0 grand final victory over Kotara South.
After blitzing Kotara South 5-1 in the major semi-final, the Bumblebees staved off their rivals in the title decider with resolute defence and skill across the park.
