Local Medowie farmers a fresh option

LONG-TIME locals will remember Medowie for its once‑thriving peach farms.

Those orchards may be gone, but Medowie hasn’t lost its connection to fresh, home‑grown produce.

A handful of small farms still operate quietly across Medowie, offering locals an alternative to supermarket shelves.

One of the best‑known spots is Farmer Bob’s Medowie Fresh Produce.

The stall runs on a simple pay‑and‑honour system, stocked with whatever has been picked that morning, from common fruit and vegetables to jars of farm‑produced honey.

It’s the kind of place where you grab what you need, leave your coins in the slot, and know exactly where your food came from.

Just around the corner is Tomatoes at Abundance, a small farm run by an owner who has been growing in Medowie for more than 10 years.

The stall is packed with whatever is in season, and the owner is quick to point out the biggest difference between farm‑fresh and supermarket produce.

“Produce from the farm will cost you less and last you longer,” they said.

According to the Australian Farmers’ Markets Association, fruit and vegetables bought directly from growers were often picked the same day, which meant they stayed fresher for longer and retained more nutrients.
