MEDOWIE will finally get its own town centre, with a final masterplan endorsed by Council during its 26 May meeting.

The plan, placed on public exhibition from December 2025, was revised after community feedback and is now ready to be put into action to support a growing population of over 20,000 residents by 2041.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for Medowie to move forward into the future,” said Cr Jason Wells.

“One of the most important aspects for me is creating a main street for Medowie, and I truly do see Ferodale Road [as that].”

The new Medowie town centre will have a plaza, green spaces and parks, mixed-use and residential zones, a playground and even a skatepark, the latter of which has caused some amount of discussion.

After community feedback, the position and design of the skatepark have been revised, and it will now be placed in a location that ensures higher visibility from Ferodale Road.

“It makes sense for skateparks to be located in the CBD of a town where there’s passive surveillance, where parents can go with their kids to help them build their confidence and new skills,” said Cr Giacomo Arnott.

Cr Paul LeMottee agreed on the point, adding that, “Even if you believe that a skatepark does have the effect of generating some antisocial behaviour from time to time, the more you put it away, the more you hide it, the more antisocial behaviour it’s going to create.”

Other highlights of the plan include the addition of a community centre and library, as well as the relocation of Medowie’s war memorials to a more central position in the town centre.

Cr Chris Doohan said, “As a proud veteran and passionate member of Medowie RSL, the implementation of the war memorial in the amphitheatre is absolutely critical to our town.

“We’re a strong defence town, and having that available for major ceremonies and a place to reflect is critical.”
