ENTRIES are open for the Port Stephens in Print 2026 competition, which will give local photographers the opportunity to showcase their take on the unique beauty of the region.
Organised by Lion Studios, Port Stephens in Print (which has now reached its third edition) is open to anyone, regardless of age, skill level and equipment.
Its aim is to immortalise the stories, landscapes and people that make Port Stephens a special place.
“From the beginning, the idea was simple,” said Kim, from Lion Studiosd.
“Take the beautiful images being shared online and give them a chance to be seen in print.”
Aspiring entrants have until 28 July to submit their pictures, and as long as they’re taken within the Port Stephens local government area, anything goes.
There’s room for landscapes, wildlife, street photography, even pictures of community events or abstract pieces.
Photographers under 18 are particularly encouraged to participate as part of an effort to cultivate and celebrate the region’s talents.
“Port Stephens in Print is about celebrating our region through local eyes while creating an exhibition that inspires both photographers and the wider community,” said Kim, from Lion Studios.
Entries to the competition will be judged by a panel of three experts, including established Australian photographer Peter Masters, previous competition winner Colin Sheringam, and Lianne Manley.
Winners in each of the categories will receive the chance to have their work exhibited for 12 months, as well as professional representation and consultation to promote their career.
However, Port Stephens in Print is about much more than winning.
Every single accepted entry will also be printed and showcased in an exhibition held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club, starting on Friday 31 July and continuing across the weekend, where the community will be invited to vote for their favourite image and meet the local artists behind the shots.
“Photography has an incredible way of connecting people,” Kim said.
