GIFTED Nelson Bay representative netballers Ciara Cullen, Sophie Edwards and Alexis Scott have been recognised through the Netball NSW Talent Identification system.
The rising prospects were three of 270 players identified by officials after stand-out performances at this year’s State Senior Netball titles in Sydney.
Nelson Bay Netball representative convenor Monica Gilbert told News Of The Area that the association was “incredibly proud” of the local trio’s efforts in the 15 years age group.
“This recognition is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to netball,” Monica said.
“We congratulate Ciara, Alexis and Sophie on this magnificent achievement and wish them every success as they continue their netball journey.”
Emerging goal attack Sophie and skilful midcourter Alexis turned in classy displays for the Nelson Bay under-15s representative team that finished a creditable 10th in the State Division Three championships at the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Courts.
Nelson Bay won seven and drew one of their 16 fixtures with the tireless duo producing their best over the three-day event to impress keen judges.
Outstanding goal keeper Ciara was part of the champion Newcastle under-15s representative side that clinched the State Division Two championship title.
Newcastle claimed the title on percentages after finishing equal first on 32 points with Bellingen – winning 16 of their 19 preliminary round matches at the Jamison Park Netball Complex in Penrith.
A tough defender with an incredible will to win, all-action Ciara played a key role in the Newcastle team’s overall success in the strong Division Two category.
In a huge fillip for the Port Stephens region, the talented trio exemplified Nelson Bay Association’s core values of respect, teamwork and camaraderie.
When Sophie and Alexis aren’t dazzling their opponents on the netball court, they devote countless hours to nurturing the sport at grassroots level as badged umpires.
