WHETHER tossing a javelin or shooting goals on a netball court you’ll find Corlette’s Brynne Dagwell in the thick of the action.
The versatile 12-year-old is regarded as one of Port Stephens rising young athletes after her meritorious deeds in track and field, and with the Nelson Bay junior representative netball squads.
Brynne’s medal-winning achievements for Port Stephens Athletics Club last summer rubber-stamped her as an “exciting field athlete prospect.”
Under the expert guidance of Port Stephens Field Coach Steve Denning, Brynne has developed into an elite javelin thrower and a field athlete “full of potential.”
Competing in the Girls 12yrs division at the Port Hunter Zone titles in Wallsend, she underlined her potential with two gold medals in the javelin and triple jump events
The promising all-rounder also recorded a personal best performance in the triple jump, collected a silver medal in the shot put and won bronze in long jump to cap an outstanding meet.
Brynne is also an emerging goal attack with the Nelson Bay 12yrs representative netball team and can be found at the Tomaree Sports Complex netball courts each weekend, potting plenty of goals with her All Stars side or shining at wing defence.
She was recognised in the association’s U11 development squad last season and continues to impress with her shooting and mid court play.
A Year 6 student at St Phillip’s Christian College at Salamander Bay, Brynne was selected in the Hunter Region Independent Schools netball representative squad, which competed at the recent state titles at Sydney Olympic Park.
She turned in strong performances in midcourt to help the Hunter finish fifth from 10 sides in the prestigious schoolgirls tournament.
Brynne has bagged plenty of goals as a goal attack for Nelson Bay at recent representative carnivals at Singleton and Cessnock – the perfect tune-up for the upcoming Netball NSW State Junior championships from July 5-7 at Baulkham Hills and Penrith.
Supporting Brynne all the way are her parents Annette and Shane, two tireless officials with the Port Stephens Athletics Club.
Annette is a fine goal shooter in her own right and also competes in Masters long distance and triathlon events.
