SINGERS in a Port Stephens community choir are raising their voices for a little girl facing the battle of her young life.

The Seaside Singers Community Choir of Port Stephens will present Songs for Lucy at Soldiers Point Bowling Club on June 27, with all proceeds helping four-year-old Lucy and her family as they navigate an intensive cancer treatment journey.

Lucy, from Airlie Beach in Queensland, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, after her family received the devastating news on Easter Sunday.

Since then, the cheerful four-year-old has already undergone major brain surgery at Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane to remove a significant portion of the tumour.

Tragically, the cancer has also spread to her spine and other areas of her brain, meaning months of intensive radiation and chemotherapy now lie ahead.

For Lucy’s parents, Cat and Andy, and her two-year-old sister Ella, the diagnosis has turned life upside down.

The family has been forced to relocate more than 1,000 kilometres from home so Lucy can receive treatment in Brisbane.

Described by loved ones as a little girl with a beaming smile, a love of unicorns and endless energy, Lucy has touched the hearts of everyone around her.

Her grandfather, Michael Simms, who is vice president of The Seaside Singers, said the fundraising effort would help ease the enormous financial pressure facing the family while allowing them to focus on what matters most – supporting Lucy through her treatment.

“The biggest challenges have been understanding how to navigate the surgery and the treatments that lie ahead for Lucy and all of the symptoms that come with the treatment,” Mr Simms said.

“Being so far away from her support network of family, friends and work colleagues has been very difficult.”

The concert will feature Seaside Singers and the PCYC Band performing a selection of favourite musical numbers, along with raffle prizes and donation opportunities.
